Lesson Learnt

The aim to post daily was much too ambitous and is not achievable.Time is the main constraint.Even if time is available, the posting may be too stereotype...monotonous.
Since, the last posting, many things happened.
Most important is the harvest of the 1st 'crop'...done in stages - 4 tanks done earlier and the other 2 much later. This is due to the fact that the fish grew at different rate - some much faster than others
The return : economic wise, its no good..revenue from sale was good to cover the cost of fry, with a bit to pay part of the feed...other costs labor, water could not be compensated...But the most precious gain is the exprience/knowledge and lesson learned which could be measured in ringgit and cents.

More update coming......

CYLCE 1 : Day 4 & 5 16th April & 17th April 2009

Day 4 16th April 2009

Feed was increased to 200gm(100gm in the morning & 100 in the afternoon)The fish
never seems filled/full.
Only 2 death - 1 each from tank 1 & 5.

Went to Honey Aquaculture 2p.m:
i) Application for licence was submitted for onward submission to Agriculture
Dpt.This was done in compliance to the Governmental requirement, and to
take advantage/enjoy the incentive given.
ii)The Agreemeent on contract farming was signed with Honey Aquaculture, who
supply fries,advice/technical support and buy back the fish harvested. Thus
market is a non isuue.
iii)Bought 10 kg paste feed. Will start with paste feed from day 5.Feeding shall
be regulated in accordance with the guideline given.

Farm record; various form were filled starting today and shall be religously maintained.

DAY 5 (17th April 2009)

7 death today –Tank 1,2,3,4 and 6 – 1 each; and Tank 5 – 3.Of the total death, 2 were found to suffer from bloated(balloon like) stomach…wonder why??
Today start using paste food(made of grounded fish)….it has a foul smell.!! Am thinking of processing own food from fish viz lume’…but have to invest on food griender. The processing of food daily will render it more fresh and will be less foul in smell.

Tomorrow, on day 6,water will be partially changed/circulated.

CYCLE 1 : Day 3 15th April 2009

In general fries are healthy and very active. They are the greedy lots - eating all pellets that were thrown into the pond.Things are getting stable. The water in the tanks looks more greenish as it should be, with planktons beginning to thrive.
11 fries were dead today.

CYCLE 1 : Day 2 : 14th April 2009

The 1st thing in the morning, checked fish to  see how's the progress was over the night. At a glance, things seems okay i.e not many casualties.

The fish were fed for the 1st time since arrival. They nibbled a bit; guess they are not used to the new place.I guess I gave a wee bit too much feed; but will see how by the evening before the 2nd helping.
Checking the death toll - by evening, some 57 fries perish on the 2nd day.Cumulatively the toll now reached 103.The expert assured me that this is normal. From the 3rd day onward, there should be less casualty(hopefully). When I was last by the tanks, during the 2nd feeding, noted that the fish are more gullible, snatching whatvere pellets in front of them.Glad to see fish are healthy, swimming actively in the tanks.

Tomorrow, I need to sign the agreement with company on the buy back scheme and submit application for 'licence' to Dpt of Agriculture(Fishery), so as to enjoy the incentive made available.

CYCLE 1 : Day 1 13th April 2009

The fries were introduced into the tanks at12.00 noon; 1000 fry(+/- 50) per tank. All in there were 6000 fries(+/- 30).Upon release of fries, noticed some were victim of stress/travel.It is to be expected there would be more casualties in the next few days - hopefully not many.

It was advised that no feeding is allowed until the next day.

By evenening, on checking, the number of casualties , in total were 46, with majority fron Tank 2(15 in number)

Hopefully not many more will be dead on next checking.
